What is ModelSim-Altera Starter Edition?
Altera Quartus creates.rpt files during synthesis, place&route and bitstream generation stages of FPGA project compilation. Verification engineer checks these reports, finds warning messages and put them into own report. But big projects can contain a lot of warnings, and manual warning search is very boring and long process. This video will guide you as you download the Altera Quartus Prime development suite version 16.1. Quartus Prime is a very powerful tool that we'll use throughout the course to explore the world of FPGA designs. There are a number of steps in this process, please follow them carefully to assure success.
The ModelSim-Altera Starter Edition is a program for use in the simulation of small field-programmable gate arrays. It is the free version of the ModelSim software from Altera and thus has restrictions on its use: it can only be used with a maximum of 10,000 executable line limitations and has 1.5x the simulation performance (or speed) of comparable field-programmable gate array simulators on the market. The for-purchase edition still outdoes it by performing at twice the speed of the average field-programmable gate array simulator, but obviously does so in exchange for a cost. However, the licensed (paid) version also has no limits on the number of executable lines. Other than this, though, the two versions of the software are more or less the same: the paid version will naturally run faster, however.

The Starter Edition of ModelSim also has support for the Quartus II Web Edition and Subscription Edition software. It is compatible with all Altera gadgets and also boasts support on Windows and Linux operating systems. It can run on Windows 7, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, and Windows Server 2008 R2.
